I often opt to go the grocery store alone after the kids are in bed safe, sound and fast asleep....I think Jamey likes it too because he has a couple of hours (because I shop at Walmart) to himself to chill with remote in hand.
So I am walking around Walmart last night from about 9:00 - 10:45 and I was amazed an appalled by how many people had their small school aged kids there at that late hour on a school night! (There was not a shortage of toddlers and infants either....I tried to give those parents the benefit of the doubt. MAYBE they were stay at home mothers who may be on a schedule that is a little more lax...maybe they sleep until 9 or 10 so with a nap in between it would be as bad that they didn't get in the bed until later...but the school aged kids I know have to be up and at 'em very early.)
People please take your kids home and let them get some rest before school!!! People wonder why their kids "act up" in school and at home....could it be because they are exhausted because they are dragged all over creation and don't get enough sleep???? Most of the ones I saw were really dragging their little feet. You could tell they were tired.
I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "If you aren't appalled you aren't paying attention". I agree. The car zoomed away before I read the rest so I don't know if it was referring to something in particular but it could apply to endless things.
Maybe I am just an old fuddy duddy and a mommy to the core but it ticked me off...that is my gripe for the day!!!
I like to shop late at night too, and I am always amazed at the young children in the store while mine are in their beds sound asleep!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm sure that most of the moms who do that are selfish and just don't care, I like to think that the ones I am seeing are single moms who work 2 minimum-wage jobs to make ends meet who have no other choice than to drag their kids out for grocery shopping late at night. It helps me not give them ugly looks.
I would tell myself that maybe they are single working parents who had to work late that evening and they HAD to go to the store because they were out of milk and eggs or something. I really try so very hard to not pass judgement on other parents for the simple reason that i don't know their story, and I am sure that at some point, someone has thought I was being a very irresponsible parent because of something that I really couldn't help. But you know....you are probably right ;-) I just tell myself these things because it makes me feel like a nice person, which I am not. So there ya go.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, now that I have 3 little'uns, if I get to the grocery store by myself, and I see a mom or dad with a screaming kid, I just give them a sympathetic look and thank my lucky stars that my own kids are at HOME!!!Ahahahaha!
That's so weird that Mandi and I posted the same damn thing at the same time :-p
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of the kids I saw were with both parents. I think one parent could have stayed behind and tucked the kids in at a decent hour. I know that everyone's situation is diffent and I shouldn't judge...it is just one of my pet peeves.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of pet peeves, I know how it is!
